Helen Sawyer Hogg was a pioneering leader in Canadian astronomy and a trailblazer for women in science. She overcame significant social and professional obstacles throughout her career while raising a family with her husband, astronomer Frank Hogg.

Over a 40-year career recognized worldwide, Helen explored globular clusters and discovered hundreds of variable stars. In the United States, where she was born, she helped establish new observatories.

Helen also brought astronomy to the general public; she wrote a long-running newspaper column and a popular book, and hosted an astronomy television show.

Throughout her life, Helen inspired people of all ages and backgrounds to reach for the stars and to never lose sight of their dreams.
